An Argyll Advantage: Argyll hosts events both onsite and online for parents and students
across our beautiful province!

These events are designed to support blended, parent-directed and teacher-directed students to
enhance their learning across the curriculum and across grades.  They are presented as enrichment
opportunities for skill improvement and to develop relationships with teaching staff and other Argyll
students. Students from out of town are certainly welcome to attend any event anywhere.

Our online events are designed to ensure that all Argyll students have access to learning programs no
matter where they live. These online programs are offered in addition to our teacher instruction. Many
are designed as virtual field trips and present resources to students and parents to enhance our
learning partnerships and support student learning across the curriculum.

An Argyll Advantage: The Argyll Science Fair: choices to celebrate student success in Science

Argyll Centre students have a long history of participating and celebrating success at science fairs
across our province, online, nationally and internationally. At this link you will see samples of student work,
and stories of their successes. Argyll Centre has a unique science fair preparation site with learning materials,
access to step by step guides to successfully prepare a student to present science research. This is a signature
feature of our services we offer students and parents in both teacher-directed and student-directed programs.
We have a coaching program in place in our Live Online program and for other students who are not part of this
program to support students to success. Please see this recording of some exemplars from our most
recent Cyber science fair.

An Argyll Advantage: Argyll Centre: Student Celebrations of Learning: grades 1-9 Live Online

A signature and unique characteristic of our Live Online program is that students build a portfolio of there
student learning over the year and share their learning at student celebrations of learning. This event
is part of the student assessment for, of and as learning that is used to support students' continuous growth.

See how capable our division one students are in showing their learning in our June Celebration of Learning .
Argyll's programs to support division 1 students at a distance is another Argyll Advantage!

An Argyll Advantage: Student and Parent Orientations - Onsite and Online!

During our first week of school in September Argyll hosts student learning orientations and parent
orientations. These orientations are part of the activities in our Week of Welcome (WOW week). Orientations
are held both onsite and online. Students and parents are oriented to

  • academic programs,
  • education technology,
  • resources to support learning,
  • supports in preparing education plans in our parent directed program

Site Based Enrichment classes and programs 2013-2014

Click here to see the details for Site Based Programming which provides home based learners and
home school families opportunities for educational support. The site based second language instruction
and Art Live Jr. High are provided as an alternative to online delivery assuring that grade level curriculum
objectives are addressed. All other site based programs support teacher-directed subjects but do not
assure all curriculum objectives are covered. These are presented as enrichment opportunities for skill
improvement and develop relationships with teaching staff and other Argyll students.

Onsite programs are available to students in ALL PROGRAMS - Parent Directed, Blended and Teacher
Directed. Students from out of town are certainly welcome to attend.

To help us with our space planning and staffing registration for these programs is available in our
online registration. Please complete this at the time of registration. These programs run on a cost
recovery basis and depend on the requisite number of students to be financially viable.

In addition to these regularly scheduled onsite classes mentioned above this is a sample of additional
field trips and events offered in this current year:

Other events available to any student across the province

Various kinds of enrichment classes/programs are offered throughout the year. Based on parent
survey feedback, student learning needs, and demographics, programs are planned in advance of the
academic year. We continue to add events throughout the year as needs are identifed. Often programs
offered by our community partners are appropriate for our students and we keep you informed of these
events too. These programs are advertised on the Argyll parent scheduler, available to all Argyll parents in
our gated learning community: MyLocker. If there is a charge to the event and to facilitate fees payment
parents register online and the fees are deducted from the parent account. Parent accounts are automatically
updated on this tab. These events are continuously updated throughout the year so it is important to include
this page as part of your regular visits to our online community. These programs run on a cost recovery basis
and depend on the requisite number of students to be financially viable.

In addition Argyll teachers identify events for our students and families hosted by our community partners
which adressed Alberta Program of Studies' learning objectives. Where appropriate, Argyll teachers attended
the event, and preparation for some programs was done in advance as part of our teacher instructed programs
and were followed up afterwards in class time. All parent directed students are welcome to participate in
these events. These events are advertised in School News in schoolzone, our facebook page, on the scheduler
and by the teachers during class time. Students from out of town are certainly welcome to attend.

Field trips are hosted locations in Calgary such as:
