Program Descriptions:
Argyll’s Career Planning program enables you to develop skills that will help you in your daily life, now and in the future. Your Career Plan prepares you for transition into the workplace and/or post-secondary education. You will refine your career-planning skills, develop technology-related skills, enhance your employability skills and apply and reinforce learning developed in other subject areas.
- Child and Youth Care Program - Be the Difference
If you want to be the difference in the lives of young children, you can start your child development training for a career in child care. The Province of Alberta has legislated training requirements for child care centre employees. Argyll’s Child and Youth Care program consists of two components. The Level 1 Orientation Course for Child Care Staff must be completed first along with CMH2050 and CMH3050. The Orientation Course is sponsored by Alberta Children and Youth Services and may be done on-line or through correspondence. The second part is applying for the High School Child Care Career Scholarship which provides first-year support for students who wish to pursue post-secondary training in child care.
This program allows you to explore the field of child care and helps you transition into post-secondary studies in the child care field.
Ever thought about being a snowboard instructor for a season? How about owning your own restaurant? Becoming an airline pilot or a chef sound interesting? How about a travel agent, or working in a hotel chain with the opportunity to travel the world while you work? eTourism is an exciting new course which blends tourism credit courses, work experience and CATT (Canadian Academy of Travel & Tourism) industry certification. Students do a huge variety of activities including exploring the front desk at the Fantasyland Hotel, designing a theme park, taking a behind-the-scenes peek at being a chef on the Food network and everything in between – all while working and gaining valuable experience for post secondary studies and certification in the Tourism Industry. This course contains real world project s, art/design assignments, as well as live chats with industry professionals. Students can earn 6 credits (and more) while exploring the many career paths in the Tourism Industry.
The Green Certificate Program is an industry driven agricultural training program. Its apprenticeship style of delivery ensures that participants learn through actively performing the skills required. This means learning, hands-on, out in the barn, field or corral and getting dirty. It also means having a trainer who is knowledgeable and interested in the trainee's success. You can earn 18 credits in this program, including one for Job Preparation CTR1010, and one for Personal Safety CTR1210.

- Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)
Students registered full-time in high school can now earn up to 40 credits toward their high school diploma by taking training towards a trade. Students who qualify for RAP take eight modules, each requiring 125 hours of training under the supervision of a Journeyman. For each 125 hours of training, students receive five credits, totaling 40 credits over one to three years.
